Seth Lael’s Bird Strings

Processed with VSCOcam with 10 preset

To say Seth Lael is a versatile musician would only be scratching the surface of this multifaceted gentleman, and a gross understatement to the multitude of talents he possesses. While Seth plays a wicked guitar in multiple projects past and present in the greater SF/Bay area (including one of this author’s favorite The Wyatt Act) his solo work offers a different insight to the man who has been known to have quite the ear for live sound quality.

It is that knack for live sound, immense knowledge of songwriting and structure, and being a master of his craft why Bird Strings, Seth’s newest release, stands strongly as an album you should play start to finish. Recorded with help from McKay Garner and funded with a successful Pledge Music campaign, Bird Strings tells a wonderful story hitting all the emotions that go along with being a human. The beauty however isn’t just contained in the words telling that story, it’s in the focused instrumentation that makes you FEEL the story.

Bird Strings starts out uplifting and adventurous with ‘Big Country’, making way to giving sound advice about the blurry lines of relationships/friendships in ‘Fine Line’ to winding his way into a haunting two-part piece called ‘AFib’ that gets downright solemn. While the last half of the album stays on the more mellow end, sans the heavy bass track ‘Up In Smoke’,  it certainly doesn’t feel low energy.

With this fall release, Seth Lael’s timing is perfect for the season. You should go on a beautiful drive to take in the changing color of leaves with Bird Strings, play it when you are snuggling up with that special someone and want to appreciate their company, or put it on in those moments when you are alone and want to know someone has been there too, knows it can be lonely and that sometimes, that’s ok.
