Spotlight on: Cave Clove, performing 4/8/15 at the Rickshaw Stop

The vocal harmonies between lead singer Katie Colver and drummer Melissa Kilkuskie are just one of the many interesting musical combinations within Cave Clove, an excellent local Bay Area quartet performing at the Rickshaw Stop this Wednesday, April 8th. Watch a live version of their newest single “Kyrie” below:

One of the most refreshing things about Cave Clove is the way this four-piece traverses so many genres. Elements of psychedelic rock, Americana, folk, 60’s pop, and soul – appear in unexpected places at their live show. It’s like Neil Young joined forces with Linda Lyndell.

Cave Clove

But that’s just the half of it –  Cave Clove is also a very contemporary band.  Their recorded music contains spacious atmospheric textures, thematic songwriting, an extensive variety of instruments and genres, from the flute to the harmonium.  Comparisons to post-2000’s folk bands like Fleet Foxes, Taken by Trees, Blitzen Trapper are apt. Check out their cover of First Aid Kit’s “My Silver Lining” below:

Now with Brent Curriden (of Lords of Sealand) on lead guitar, the band has taken their music in a more Rock’n’Roll direction, as evidenced by their recent live performance on KPFA.

Cave Clove will be joined this Wednesday, April 8th at the Rickshaw Stop by Doncat (Duncan Nielsen of City Tribe) and Montra, a band of mysterious and enigmatic characters who are releasing a new EP that night. Doors at 8:00 pm, All Ages, $10.00. Don’t miss out!
