Biography

Bay Area native DJ Aaron Axelsen has been championing new music for two decades now and is currently the Music Director/Assistant Program Director of Entercom’s freshly launched Bay Area alternative station ALT 1053.  Aaron is instrumental in booking two iconic Northern California radio music festivals, too, with BFD and Not So Silent Night.

Axelsen also co-founded in 1996 one of the country’s longest-running weekly indie parties Popscene –which currently takes place Friday’s at Rickshaw Stop, San Francisco- and is where artists like Flume, Phoenix, Muse, Amy Winehouse, Calvin Harris, Mumford and Sons, Vampire Weekend, Sam Smith, Lily Allen, The Killers, Glass Animals, Florence + The Machine, Alt-J, Foals, Arctic Monkeys, etc, all made their SF debuts.

Finally, Aaron has been a fixture on the Bay Area airwaves hosting the long-running weekly new music show SOUNDCHECK, which airs Sunday’s 9 PM – 12 AM on ALT 1053. This seminal new music radio show features new and emerging artists, future hits, indie rock and also, prominently showcases the very best from the local music scene.
